THE TUAPEKA RIVER DAM WALK
A group of keen locals have been developing a walking track along the Tuapeka River.
You will be able to see and find out about various historical features, enjoy the peaceful walk,
and see the 1920's concrete dam used as part of the gold mining projects.

An earlier wooden crib dam was built further upstream in 1907. This concrete dam was begun in 1914.
Water from the dam was conveyed on a water race to the turbine and sluicing area. Look for the line of the water race to the left of the fence on your way back, following a gentle gradient down.
Some photos show the dam in different stages of river level. Imagine it on a different day – heavy flood or peaceful trickle.
